Our Professional Development Workshops are designed to help schools, organizations, and individual facilitators skill up in a number of areas. By providing these proactive workshops to our Community Partners, it is our hope to dismantle the systems of oppression that widen the achievement gap for our youth.
Trauma is complicated, and everyone experiences it. Being able to identify the effects of secondary-trauma is important for educators, facilitators, and community organizers. Our workshop will give you the skills to manage secondary-trauma, and improve mindfulness practices for yourself and your organization.
Understanding that everyone experiences trauma is just the first step. In order to create a culture of change and healing, organizations and individuals need to implement trauma-sensitive frameworks that center the embodied experience, and create a safe space for youth to learn and grow.
The self-care workshop hosted by The Equity Firm was amazing! It provided tools I can use to reduce stress and return to a place of calm. (RS)
The self-care virtual workshop was both enjoyable and informative. It has me reassessing my turbulent moments in life, and it gave me quick actionable tools to use to recollect myself. So glad I took the training, it was so very much needed. (AL)
I highly recommend The Equity Firm’s Self-Care for Teachers workshop! I attended the first session with Jan and Amanda from AHHAH, and I walked away transformed. Jan and Amanda shared real-time breathing and movement techniques that helped relieve moments of anxiety. They also enlightened us on what it means to be weather conscious. I so appreciate Jonette for creating this space for educators, especially during this time. This is a must attend class! (TS)
The first part of our Anti-Racism workshop series dives into the legal history of "whiteness," and how these legal decisions have impacted the many social systems that make up our society. In order to dismantle oppressive systems, we must first understand how those systems came to be.
The second part of our Anti-Racism workshop series takes a more personal approach. We will dive into white privilege, white fragility, and how each of us are complicit in oppressive systems, whether we think we are or not. This workshop is designed for participants to explore deeply personal truths in order to become better allies.
The third and final workshop in our Anti-Racism workshop series gives participants the opportunity to re-examine their work as individuals and within their institutions. The goal of this workshop is to walk away with both a personal accountability contract and an action plan to dismantle oppressive systems within our organizations and communities.
